InayaDesk documentation

Everything you need to install, deploy, administer and integrate InayaDesk.

New to InayaDesk?Start with the quick start, then set up unattended access.

Getting started

Quick start

Get your first remote session running in about two minutes.

  1. Create an account at inayadesk.com/register and verify your email.
  2. Install InayaDesk on the computer you'll connect from. Download it from the download page, or open the web app at remote.inayadesk.com.
  3. Install InayaDesk on the computer you'll connect to, or ask the person in front of it to run the quick-support client.
  4. Connect: enter the 9-digit device ID, or pick the device from your list, and click Connect.

Attended sessions ask the remote user to accept the connection. To connect without anyone present, set up unattended access.

Getting started

Installing the app

Windows

Run InayaDesk-Setup.exe and follow the installer. Windows 10, 11 and Server 2016 or newer (64-bit) are supported.

macOS

Open InayaDesk.dmg and drag InayaDesk to Applications. On first launch, grant Screen Recording and Accessibility permissions in System Settings › Privacy & Security so the remote side can see and control the screen.

Linux

# Debian / Ubuntu
sudo apt install ./inayadesk.deb

# Fedora / RHEL
sudo dnf install ./inayadesk.rpm

Both X11 and Wayland sessions are supported. On Wayland, the user approves screen sharing through the system portal.

Mobile

Install InayaDesk from Google Play or the App Store to control computers from your phone or tablet.

Remote access

Unattended access

Unattended access lets you connect to a device any time, without someone accepting the session.

  1. Open InayaDesk on the device and go to Settings › Security.
  2. Turn on Unattended access and assign the device to your account or a device group.
  3. Set a device password, or require your organisation's SSO login.

We recommend requiring two-factor authentication for every technician who can use unattended access.

Remote access

During a session

  • Multi-monitor: switch screens from the toolbar, or show all screens side by side.
  • Clipboard sync: copy and paste text, images and files between computers.
  • File transfer: drag files into the session window, or open the two-pane file manager.
  • Chat and notes: message the remote user and add notes that are saved to the ticket.
  • Reboot and reconnect: restart the remote computer (including into Safe Mode) and reconnect automatically.

Useful shortcuts: Ctrl + Alt + Del from the toolbar, and F11 to toggle full screen.

Administration

Deploying at scale

Roll InayaDesk out to hundreds or thousands of devices with your existing tools.

Windows (MSI)

msiexec /i InayaDesk.msi /qn DEPLOY_TOKEN=<your-token> GROUP="Head Office"

Distribute the MSI with Intune, Group Policy or any software deployment tool. Create deployment tokens in the admin console under Devices › Deploy.

macOS (PKG + MDM)

Deploy the signed PKG with your MDM and push the included PPPC profile to pre-approve Screen Recording and Accessibility.

Linux

curl -fsSL https://inayadesk.com/install.sh | sudo DEPLOY_TOKEN=<your-token> bash

Administration

Users, roles & SSO

Invite technicians from admin.inayadesk.com › Users. Each user gets a role that controls what they can do:

RoleCan do
OwnerEverything, including billing and deleting the organisation
AdminManage users, policies, device groups and integrations
TechnicianConnect to and manage devices in assigned groups
ViewerView-only sessions and reports

On Enterprise plans, connect SAML 2.0 single sign-on (Okta, Microsoft Entra ID, Google Workspace) and provision users automatically with SCIM.

Administration

Security settings

  • Require two-factor authentication for all users.
  • Device approval: new sign-in devices must be approved by email or by an admin.
  • Session permissions: disable file transfer, clipboard or remote input per role or device group.
  • Session recording: record sessions for compliance and training.
  • IP allow-lists: restrict console sign-in to your office or VPN ranges.

See the security overview for how InayaDesk protects sessions and data.

Developers

API reference

The InayaDesk REST API lets you automate devices, users, sessions and tickets. The base URL is https://api.inayadesk.com/v1, and all requests and responses use JSON.

Authentication

Create an API key in admin.inayadesk.com › Developers and send it as a bearer token:

curl https://api.inayadesk.com/v1/devices \
  -H "Authorization: Bearer $INAYADESK_API_KEY"

Example response

{
  "data": [
    { "id": "dev_8f2k1", "name": "FIN-LAPTOP-07", "os": "windows", "status": "online", "group": "Finance" }
  ],
  "next_cursor": null
}

Lists are paginated with cursor and limit parameters. Rate limits are returned in the RateLimit-* response headers.

Developers

Webhooks

Webhooks notify your systems when something happens in InayaDesk, such as session.started, session.ended, device.offline, alert.triggered or ticket.created.

Each delivery is signed with an InayaDesk-Signature header (HMAC-SHA256 of the raw body with your webhook secret). Verify the signature before trusting the payload, and respond with a 2xx status within 10 seconds. Failed deliveries are retried with exponential backoff for up to 24 hours.

Help

Troubleshooting

The connection is slow

InayaDesk adapts quality to your network automatically. If sessions are still slow, check that UDP traffic to our relays isn't blocked, and try lowering the resolution from the session toolbar.

The remote screen is black (macOS)

Grant Screen Recording permission to InayaDesk in System Settings › Privacy & Security, then restart the app.

I can't control the remote computer

On macOS, grant Accessibility permission. On Windows, run the quick-support client as administrator to control elevated windows.
